what can you add?

"We have more than we use."
Ralph Waldo Emerson

I like to think in terms of addition rather than subtraction.  For example when I start looking at what I am eating and want to change bad habits, it doesn't help me to look at what I have to take away.  I respond much better by looking at what I can add.  Adding good habits will make it harder to hold on to bad habits.  But don’t let them go because you have to, let them go because they fall off.  I love Popeye’s Chicken and if you told me I could never have it again, I’m sure I would immediately get depressed.  But out of creating a better habit, Popeye’s only occurs every so often.  Get excited about what you can create in your life and move towards that.  Watch less TV because you have filled up your time with other things and you just don’t have the time to watch TV.  Add value and you wont feel like you’re losing something.  I think that is the downfall when you set yourself up to feel deprived, there is a part of us that automatically wants to rebel.  Nobody wants to be told what to do even if it’s you thats doing the telling.  So think about addition, think about what you could do to add value to your life.  Get creative and have fun!
Today I am grateful for Cecilia’s creativity and that she inspires me to make things and tap into my creativity.

change your mind

If you only look at what is, you might never attain what could be.

It’s all about perspective.  Usually if you don’t like what you are experiencing in life, you can change your experience by changing your mind.  We always want the thing to change but we can not control what is outside of us, only what is inside of us.  So when your angry or upset stop and think about your position and what your so angry about and usually you can solve the problem just by changing your mind.  It’s usually your ego that is in the way.  I know it sounds simple and really it is, if your willing to let go of the control or position.  Learning to be flexible in life is the greatest gift you could give yourself.
Today I am grateful for my fun packed day filled with so many adventures.  I am truly blessed.

hopes and fears

Trust your hopes, not your fears.
David Mahoney

I had this quote on my bathroom mirror probably 10 years ago and when I just came across it, it sort of jolted me.  You forget.  How many of us put all of our trust in what we fear?  It comes so natural to have fear and doubt that you don’t even realize when it’s happening.  You can think you have mastered something as I thought I had all those years ago only to read again and realize how fear is a constant presence in my life.  Obviously there is good fear like the jaws of a shark or the edge of a cliff but the question is when does fear become relevant.  Never touching the water because of the fear of a shark robs you of the opportunity to experience the water.  Just like starting your own business might be terrifying but having never tried would rob you of the experience and opportunity to set out on your own.  Pushing past fear gives you something that you can’t get from thinking something thru or imagining it, only in the walk thru the fear will you evolve and grow and become everything you were meant to be.
Everyday do something that scares you and I guarantee that your life will not be the same.  You will be liberated and unrecognizable even to yourself.  Keep in mind this isn't about danger, this is about walking thru personal fears like speaking in public or being assertive or maybe for you its going to a movie by yourself.  The idea is to push thru and let me know how it goes.  I will do the same.
Today I am grateful for the space to write and for the inspiration to do so.
